Tostones Tacos

We can call this Chapter 2 from a taco journey that you might not be aware of, but it lasted two episodes. Last Taco Tuesday, when I ordered my tacos from Uber Eats, I had two options in mind: either drive somewhere or order delivery. I chose delivery, but the other option I had was driving toward this place.
It was easier for me to stay home that day for a number of reasons, so I ordered from Los de Tamaulipas, and their tacos were mind-blowing. But the option I actually wanted to try was 30 minutes away from home. Even though it is not that far, the traffic on Louetta Rd. and the amount of lights is insane. If you drive during the daytime, a 40-minute drive at night might be half of that. But I knew I wanted to hit this spot, especially because of what I saw on their menu. So I didn’t wait too long to pay them a visit.
So I went to Ambriza on Louetta Rd. The place is very Instagrammable, from the outside to the inside. An authentic Mexican food place, no Tex, only Mex. One of those strange places where they use authentic ingredients and cook their food from scratch, according to their bartender. And I don’t want to sound like a bootlicker, but it was a mind-blowing experience.
While I was looking at places online, something that caught my attention about this place was an item on their menu. They had tostones, and their tostones are used as tostadas, plus you can fold ’em like a taco. You all know I like to try crazy combinations and take my taste buds to places they have never been before. They came topped with beef picadillo, red onions, and queso fresco. The meat was so good and juicy, like literally juicy, like I had a mini soup of beef on my tacos.

Plus, Taco Tuesdays are all about tacos, so I had to order a campechano taco. I had no idea what campechano was. It was my first time ever trying one. And honestly, until a few weeks ago, I only thought that tacos came in four options. Omg, I was completely wrong. The campechano was made of sirloin steak, chorizo, and nopal. Now imagine that your steak tastes like chorizo. I was able to feel the flavor and texture of my steak, with the chorizo flavor as an aftertaste. Every Tuesday that passes, it is harder for me to choose a top 3.

Of course I had to. I ordered a tequila dirty martini with Centenario Reposado. It just so happened that this time it never arrived. Something weird happened with the bartender, because even though I explained to him what I wanted, he ended up making a Mexican martini. Some of you can be happy now, but I let him know: mine was better. But hey, the service was great, so I don’t complain.

I need to come back to this place. There are a few things left to try from the happy hour menu, plus a few entrées. And it is not too expensive. I ended up paying like 50 bucks for all of this. It is a cool place. I can imagine myself bringing dates here or just coming anytime I feel like eating something special. Only because it is a bit too far from home; otherwise, I would be here every week
