Lets Grab a Slice

Every New Yorker, or anyone who has lived in New York long enough, knows what a slice is. When you go to a pizzeria and order a slice, it is just a slice of cheese pizza, as simple as that, with no toppings.
The experience of ordering pizza in NYC is unique. I don’t know if people from Boston or Chicago might think it is similar. But imagine this scenario: you get out of work, a party, school, or any random event you were attending. And you happen to be walking on a block that has slices for one or three dollars. Then you walk in, and they have on display a bunch of different slices with different toppings, such as white pizza, buffalo chicken, margherita, etc. So you’re able to choose: “Let me get a slice of this or that.” They put it in the oven, which is right in front of you, and after a few minutes, they take it out, and boom, the pizza is ready.
A few years ago, when I moved down to Houston, I went to a spot called Brooklyn Pizzeria. I thought it was authentic. There was no display, only a menu with small letters and prices. I asked the guy if I could get a slice, to which he responded, “What toppings do you like?” Then immediately, I knew that the only authentic things in this restaurant were the pictures of NYC hanging around the restaurant. The guy went to the back and, after about five minutes, came back with my pizza.
Overall, the pizza culture in Houston is prolly the same as in other states or cities. I’ve seen food trucks that only sell pizza pies, and people grab them like they’re picking up a slice. In most places, their only option is to sell a whole pie, which, hey, I love pizza. If I get a pie, I will eat the whole thing in one sitting. But I think the reasonable amount is to pick up two slices. And honestly, that feels like too many sometimes. If you’re someone trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle like me, a slice every once in a while is enough.
For that reason, I strongly recommend Tony’s New York Pizzeria. If you guys wanna know what I’m talking about, you just need to walk into this place. They display their slices, and you can grab what you like. And if you ask for a slice, they know what you’re talking about. They have the oven right in front of you, so you can see what’s going on with your pizza. And their pizza is so good, it is crazy, just like the one in NYC.

I have always been a fan of pizza. It is actually the meal I would eat in a bunker for the rest of my life. I can eat it even cold, straight from the fridge. I just wish we had more places like this in Houston. What I truly miss is the ability to just pick as many slices as you like. I think that business idea is just perfect. People who sell empanadas, you know they prolly sit there all day, but it doesn’t matter. It is cheap, there is only one, and it will help you survive.
